6/1/2026 Route: West Ridge Posted On: 6/1/2026, By: CaptainSuburbia Info: The fallen tree blocking the road to the trailhead was removed. It's a very rocky road. Took me 45 minutes to drive last 3.5 miles to the Jennings Creek trailhead. Route to summit is mostly clear of snow. I might have made a dozen steps in snow. It's a fabulous route. I didn't see anyone until the summit. |

5/23/2026 Route: Via Mt. Shavano Posted On: 5/23/2026, By: gmarcotte Info: There are scattered snow patches on the descent from Shavano. Most of Tabeguache's direct east ridge and north face are snow covered, but ascending the south face is mostly dry. There are faint use trails to navigate through the talus. The final stretch along the ridge to the summit is snow covered and somewhat narrow -- spikes may be a good idea if up there at a time when the snow could be hard/icy. |

5/16/2026 Route: Via Mt. Shavano Posted On: 5/18/2026, By: afcolorado14 Info: Heading down Shavano to Tabeguache there were a few snow fields; we walked through them because they were solid enough that we weren't postholing but they also could've been avoided. Other than that the saddle between the two and the entire south face of Tabeguache was dry. Weather was gorgeous for us too, almost no wind! |

5/10/2026 Route: Via Mt. Shavano Posted On: 5/12/2026, By: sconzo1922 Info: See Mt. Shavano report for more information. Most of the snow encountered the whole day was between Shavano and Tabeguache. Shavano's north slope is holding quite a bit still on descent. Luckily previous tracks were easy to follow without postholing and were firm in the morning. There is continuous snow all the way from the saddle between Shavano and Tabeguache to the summit, which can slow you down, but we did not need spikes. On the way back, snow became slushier and slippery. For the next couple weeks, expect enough snow to slow you down a bit, but it is definitely doable as of 5/10. Expect a longer day. |

4/10/2026 Route: Via Mt. Shavano Posted On: 5/4/2026, By: elliebeauchamp Info: Tabeguache had more snow than Shavano, stay left to avoid the snow field on ascent of Tab! Brought spikes but didn't use/need them. |

3/28/2026 Route: Via Mt. Shavano Posted On: 3/29/2026, By: bschiff Info: Little snow up high near the peak. Can be avoided by going left. Spikes not needed. Summer conditions. |

3/20/2026 Route: Via Mt. Shavano Posted On: 3/25/2026, By: jwiszyns Info: Hiked Shavano & Tabeguache on Friday, some patches of 6-12 inches of snow below treeline, no major post holing. Above treeline dry, no traction needed. |

3/13/2026 Route: Via Mt. Shavano Posted On: 3/13/2026, By: Skimo95 Info: Ridge variant both ways on Shavano, sleeper trail that we utilized on return. Took our chances with trail runners and didn’t regret it. Angel and Tab will likely not be in for good skiing this season unfortunately. Weird conditions overall |

2/28/2026 Route: Via Mt. Shavano Posted On: 3/2/2026, By: Jonathan Deffenbaugh Info: Traverse mostly dry till you reach the saddle. Worth reaching the ridge crest as the snow was much solid than the slopes below. Ended up zig zagging throuhh talus and mixed snow conditions, made it back to Shavano sticking on the east side of the ridge to help mitigate the winds coming through. |

1/13/2026 Route: Via Mt. Shavano Posted On: 1/14/2026, By: the_hare Info: Took standard route up to Shav/Tab. Road is still clear of any major snow & ice obstacles including the usual drift over the switchback on FS252 which only barely encroached on the road. It's remarkable how little snow there is below treeline--much of the trail is dry with sparse ice patches and many snowy areas have little accumulation on trail. Recent parties have put in great tracks. Near treeline there's a couple steep snow crossings that require attention. No flotation needed, didn't wear traction on the way up but it sure helped on the way down starting from these crossings especially with the many ice patches. New CFI trail is outstanding, what an immense effort putting in so many rock steps switchbacking up the Shavano false summit. A small herd of bighorn sheep were grazing near the trail just past the switchbacks so I went up and around them and headed straight up to Shavano from there. Wind forecast was pretty mild but it was continuously blustery on the Shavano ridge towards Tab. I followed a mix of exposed social trails and rock hopping up the Tab E face to the summit, didn't see tracks on the ridge proper & was glad to be out of the wind anyway. No large-scale loading on Tab face & snow patches are avoidable/ rock-hoppable. Saw a wildfire toward the south, checked the Google maps wildfire layer & it was a prescribed burn on Sargents Mesa. |

12/31/2025 Route: Via Mt. Shavano Posted On: 12/31/2025, By: madmattd Info: Dry from Shavano to the saddle if you stick near the ridge crest. Scattered shallow snow fields from the saddle to the summit of Tabeguache, but easy to deal with and probably avoidable if you really feel the need. I didn't use any traction aids up or down. |

11/9/2025 Route: Via Mt. Shavano Posted On: 11/9/2025, By: tnils Info: Bone dry trail until about 12,500. After some snow patches up Shav, but no need for spikes. Little hard to see trail with snow. Ridge to and trail up Tab much snowier, but still lots of exposed boulder field too to avoid patches. Hiked 11/9 and was beautiful day--not too windy and not very cold at all given time of year. |

11/3/2025 Route: West Ridge Posted On: 11/4/2025, By: Dfoor Info: Did Tab 11/3. Left TH at 6:30a. Drive to the TH from Hwy 50, the entire hike and drive back to 50, never saw another person. Incredible solitude. I’ve never hiked this late in the year before. Didn’t know what to expect in regards to snow. We have been dry the last 10 days or so and was hopeful for light snow. Had spikes but didn’t use them. Some snow would be soft and then a hard spot right next to it. Was able to hike around most of it. Pretty morning. Great view of San Luis Valley. One pic shows the view back to Point 13936 from the summit. Very windy in the saddle but very pleasant at the summit. Great trail. Easy to navigate, despite not being maintained. 14ers photos are very helpful. I agree with recent reports about the road. Bumpy, but doable for most SUVs. |

10/19/2025 Route: West Ridge Posted On: 10/19/2025, By: danigurl320 Info: Tab attempt from Jennings Creek. The road up was easy work for my lifted Wrangler, took maybe 20-30 min. The wind was whipping in the bowl on the way to the saddle. The left side of the ridge to 13,969 had soft snow (9 AM) post-holing to about mid-calf in most places. The wind was howling with crazy gusts, blowing us sideways. My eyes aren’t calibrated, but I disagree with mountain forecast on the wind speeds today 😅. We called it around 12,600. I can do snow, but that wind was ridiculous. No reason to be miserable. I’ll be back next year. |
